Robin lost 55 pounds in one year

That’s the lowest weight Robins been in 15 YEARS!  

More than that: Robin broke bonds with yoyo dieting by making sustainable habit changes. So I sat down with Robin (via Zoom), a Lean With Plants course member and community hero, to record podcast no. 46Robins story is powerful and here are some of the highlights...

am 46 and married. I have a teenager. I work full time and have a very sedentary job at a computer most of the day. I am the only vegan in my family, including extended family and really the only vegan I know... even out of my friend group and co-workers... so that's been a little bit interesting. 

My diet history?  

I grew up in the Southern United States, so ate a very standard American diet. We ate pretty healthy at home, but definitely had tonnes of processed foods, McDonald's, ice cream, cookies and cream, and candy, though I never struggled with weight until college. 
 

I've had at least 20 years of just constant yo-yo dieting. I have tried everything from calorie counting to severe restrictions. I've done low carbs though I never really did keto. I never made it past like day four or five on that. I was just miserable and had headaches. I did so many other diets: the ones where you spend tonnes of money and food is delivered to your house.  

I just did everything, but would have this constant cycle of being 100% all-in (or is close to 100% as I could be) and for a matter of weeks or months I would lose 20 pounds. People would be telling me I've lost weight. I’d be fitting into clothes that I haven't fit in before... but then something would happen, stress or something would throw me off my routine or whatever and I would have one little slip up that would lead to another. Then I’d be completely out, gain all that weight back and then some! 

You get to that point of defeat. You know, the constant emotional toll it takes to go through all that and then lose. It’s awful. It just reinforces the “I can't do this”, or “something's wrong with me”, or “I don't have the will power”, or, “its my genetics”. Its awful. 

I got into a point where I had just given up. I thought, “I’m gonna have to get used to living like thisI didn't want to go out in public because I was embarrassed and I didn't want to be in people's pictures.  

Then one day I went to a walk-in clinic to get some prescription eye drops. They weighed me and at that point I had not weighed myself in months, so when I saw the number I just could not believe it! It was the highest weight I'd ever been!
